Giesswein Merino Runners vs Wool Knit

We love the Giesswein Merino Runners and have been wearing it since its introduction in 2016. Here you can find our detailed Giesswein Merino Runners review

giesswein merino runners colorsThe only small drawback of the Giesswein Merino Runners is that the sneaker look reminds a bit of a slipper. You can find that cool (it makes you stand out a little bit more from the general sneaker look) or you can look for an alternative, which Giesswein now offers with the Merino Wool Knit itself.

Merino Wool Knit differences to the Merino Runner?

To put it simply: The Giesswein Wool Knit can do everything that the Giesswein Merino Runner can do. It is a comfortable merino sneaker, which is made completely out of the soft and super breathable material, except for the outsole. With this shoe you get all the advantages of the Merino-Sneaker.
But the biggest difference is the adapted optic, which makes the shoe even more compatible to everyday life and puts it on the same level as normal sneakers (you can find that good or bad). The upper material of the Merino Wool Knit was supplemented by a new layer in Merino 3D knit look.

Furthermore the laces of the Wool Knit are now threaded through real metal eyelets and the sole has also been updated. The striking notches on the side of the sole have disappeared and the outsole looks much more straightforward and harmonious as you can see in comparison.

But especially the new 3D knitted look makes a big difference, so that you can wear the Giesswein Merino Wool Knit really everywhere.

By the way, another nice detail of the new model are the new, fresh colors, with which you can also make a statement in terms of color. But also for people who like it a bit more discreet, there are beautiful, reduced single-color versions available.

Giesswein Merino Wool Knit experiences

You can read a detailed report about the Wool Knit here: Giesswein Wool Knit review
Nevertheless we would like to give you an insight, especially to get a comparison to the very similar Merino Runner. Despite their different looks, both Giesswein Merino shoes offer the same pleasant wearing comfort. The Wool Knit shoes are about half a size larger than the Merino Runners. The special thing about them is that the material makes them look slimmer. So the Giesswein Merino Wool Knit makes a rather slim foot than the Giesswein Merino Runner.

The new upper material of Wool Knit also makes itself felt in a higher stability. This gives you even more support in the shoe. Another (but really minimal) difference between the Merino Runner and the Wool Knit is the air circulation. In our comparative tests, the Merino Wool Knit seems to be slightly less breathable due to the dense weave of the outer material. At least we were a little warmer in the shoe. But of course that could also be due to the hotter weather. But we never got sweaty feet even in the Giesswein Merino Wool Knit!

Conclusion Giesswein Merino Runner or Giesswein Wool Knit?

If you want to get the original merino wool feeling from Giesswein and if you don’t mind the “design proximity” to the famous Giesswein slipper (or if you even find it very cool), you should go for the Merino Runner.

But if you want to get a modern sneaker design made of Merino wool, which will make you look your best in every situation in everyday life and if you can get over the minimal reduction of breathability, you should rather go for the Giesswein Wool Knit.
